FEA to lead USGBC Lunch-and-Learn LEED Webinar Study Sessions

USGBC National Capital Region Lunch-and-Learn LEED Study Session Webinars

The National Capital Region Chapter of the USGBC has invited FEA to conduct Lunch-and-Learn webinars for those interested in obtaining LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional for Existing Buildings, Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB+O&M).
 

These convenient webinars are divided up into two series; the first geared toward the LEED Green Associate exam focusing on an introduction to LEED and the basics, while the second is geared to the LEED AP EB+OM exam and dives into the subject matter areas associated with the LEED rating system. It is recommended that you attend all 9 sessions if you intend to take either the LEED Green Associate or the LEED AP EB+OM exams. The webinars will be held on Wednesdays from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. EST. The schedule and topics are as follows:
 

Series I – The Basics (Sessions 1-3)

March 3, 2010
Session #1: Introduction to LEED, the Credentialing Program, and the LEED Online Process
 Gain a general understanding of what the various LEED rating systems are and their goals.
 Learn the basic application requirements and general exam content for the new LEED credentialing system.
 Learn how to navigate the LEED Online process and LEED Online project resources.

Session #2: Project Site Factors, Water Management, and Energy Impacts
 Learn how the location of a building and its surroundings can impact sustainability.
 Identify water efficiency measures to improve water management.
 Understand the importance of energy conservation measures to achieve operational sustainability.

Session #3: Project Materials and Surroundings
 Gain a general understanding of ongoing consumables, durable goods, and sustainable purchasing materials and the role they play in sustainability.
 Learn the importance of a waste stream audit and its elements.
 Learn how to build a successful LEED project team.
 

Series II – Key Areas of the LEED Rating System (Sessions 4-9)

 Learn the credits associated with this category, the intent, the strategies, and the points associated with each credit.
 Develop strategies for waste management and waste diversion.
 Develop strategies for writing a sustainable purchasing policy and tracking sustainable purchases and waste diversion rates.

Session #5: Water Efficiency
 Learn the credits associated with this category, the intent, the strategies, and the points associated with each credit.
 Determine your baseline number for domestic water usage and learn how to benchmark that baseline.
 Develop strategies for building water efficiency measures for domestic water, process water, and water efficient landscaping practices.

Session #6: Sustainable Sites
 Learn the credits associated with this category, the intent, the strategies, and the points associated with each credit.
 Identify elements of an integrated pest management, erosion control, and landscape management plan.
 Develop strategies for promoting and documenting alternative and commuter transportation.

Session #7: Energy & Atmosphere
 Learn the credits associated with this category, the intent, the strategies, and the points associated with each credit.
 Identify the elements of a building operating plan that promotes best management practices and a more efficient facility.
 Learn how to establish a building’s energy consumption baseline and ways to decrease energy consumption including energy audits and retro-commissioning.

Session #8: Indoor Environmental Quality
 Learn the credits associated with this category, the intent, the strategies, and the points associated with each credit.
 Identify the elements of an integrated IAQ management program.
 Learn the elements of a green cleaning program, including purchasing products, materials, and cleaning equipment, and the requirements for a custodial effectiveness assessment.

April 28, 2010
Session #9: Innovation, Regional Points, and LEED AP Review
 Develop strategies for achieving innovation points.
 Learn the basics of the regional priority points under the LEED rating system.
 Learn study tips and general overview of the LEED rating system through practice questions.
 

To register, visit the USGBC National Capital Region website and click on Events. Series I and II have separate registrations. Series I is $90.00 for members and $115.00 for non-members. Series II is $180.00 for members and $210.00 for non-members. CEU credits are expected to be available for each.
