Environmental Services
FEA's Licensed Asbestos Building Inspectors can evaluate your facility, identify asbestos-containing materials (ACM), and provide recommendations for management of the ACM. The condition of the ACM, renovation plans, and owner preferences will determine if the ACM should be abated. Abatement work requires specialized techniques, protective equipment, and trained workers. FEA can prepare technical specifications for the abatement project in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations. In addition, FEA can provide construction monitoring services including reviewing submittals and monitoring the abatement work.
FEA's Licensed Lead Inspectors and Risk Assessors can evaluate your facility, identify if lead-based paint (LBP) is present, and provide recommendations for management of the LBP. The condition of the LBP, renovation plans, and owner preferences will determine if the LBP should be abated.
Lead-Based Paint may also become an issue during renovation of buildings constructed prior to 1978. Although most renovation activities involving lead-painted surfaces are not regulated as abatement, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations still apply. The employers of construction personnel that disturb lead-containing paint are required to follow the requirements of OSHA's regulation that includes air monitoring, personal protection equipment, and health monitoring of employees. If conducted improperly, renovations in buildings with lead-based paint can create serious health hazards to workers and occupants by releasing large amounts of lead dust and debris.
