University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Roofing ProjectThe client contracted FEA to perform an assessment of the various roof systems at the Bass Center Power Plant and recommend repairs or replacement. Based on our observations, we indicated that repairs on the boiler room roof areas could extend the service life of the roof systems two to five years, rather than perform immediate replacement. On the cooling tower roof basins a ballasted PVC roof system with heat welded seams was specified in part because of the owner's budget and design constraints. FEA designed the roof repairs and replacement roof system and assisted the owner with bidding and contract administration. By using FEA, the client was able to know with confidence the condition of the roof systems and that appropriate repairs had been implemented. Also, performing repairs instead of roof replacement on selected areas afforded the client an opportunity to plan for future roof replacement, both logistically and financially.
