American University Energy & Sustainability Policy Preparation

Facility Engineering Associates, P.C. (FEA) assembled an experienced team to work with American University (AU) on creating a comprehensive Best Practices Energy and Sustainability Policy that will put AU in the vanguard of H.E. institutions in using sustainable practices and work towards their goal of signing the Talloires Declaration from the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future.
FEA performed a sustainability assessment of current AU policies and procedures regarding energy management, water efficiency, sustainable sites, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, green building goals, and educational awareness. We provided recommendations for improving on their sustainable practices in these areas.
FEA drafted a proposed Energy and Sustainability Policy that encompassed the sustainable strategies already implemented by AU as well as recommended practices to bring AU to the forefront of the university leaders in sustainability.
FEA compared AU's sustainability policies and procedures to that of other top universities, and incorporated the key findings into a scorecard which rates AU in comparison to other universities.
In the final phase, FEA is assisting AU with implementation and measuring the effectiveness of the policy.
FEA completed the assessment in a timely manner and met an aggressive schedule for completion. This was accomplished through close coordination with American University and FEA.
