Successful facilities managers understand the importance of a strong competent team surrounding them and most are aware of the 11 FM core competencies needed as defined by IFMA.  However, knowing is one thing, truly integrating these into the operating competencies in your organization is another.  Integration is the key and a competency model is a valuable tool which can create an integrated talent management system and link it to increased shareholder value.  This is always a stress point for FMers…matching their talents and day-to-day activities to the true value they bring to their organizations.   Certain competencies, like delivering quality customer service involve skills which are not always recognized or rewarded. The reality is that great customer service links to productivity which links to shareholder value.  A competency model will highlight critical competencies and related performances which are critical to your organization.   Shouse will share workforce development resources, such as competency models and career maps currently being utilized by government and business entities.  They will outline how your FM competency modeling effort can be shared and supported by your senior leaders, aligned to organizational strategy and integrated into your talent management practices.  We will highlight the Federal Buildings Training Act (FBPTA) competency model and you will discover how a competency model becomes the foundation for an integrated talent management system by mapping the competencies to your team’s roles.  Through understanding these efforts, you too can create your roadmap to success in talent management in FM.

Let’s build excellence, together.
